Decking patterns can inspire you to create better arts and crafts

I remember the first time I got into arts and crafts, I was under the impression that I have to read arts and crafts books for me to get the kind of inspiration that I need to level up my game.

Boy, was I wrong. It turned out that as long as I have a certain mindset, I can look at almost anything and get inspired.

In fact, often times, if I get into some heated argument or I talk to people and they get all heated, this emotional catharsis kind of unclogs my internal emotional, creative flow, and I’m able to come up with better ideas as far as arts and crafts are concerned.

I know that sounds crazy, I know that sounds weird, I know that sounds unconventional, but it’s also true. You just don’t know what will trigger you to take your imagination and creativity to a whole other level.

In fact, it can happen to quickly and so fast and have such a profound impact that it can even border on being downright scary. But you should welcome such opportunities.

Instead of restricting yourself to neatly defined boundaries of what is creative and what isn’t creative, you should be more open minded as to the kinds of experiences that can trigger your deep reservoir of imagination, inspiration and creativity. It really all boils down to associations.

And believe me, when I’m watching some sort of TV show, I get triggered. I start thinking and gears start turning, and all of a sudden I find myself working on a new fashion accessory because I saw a connection and I saw an emotional state and I saw another level to reality that I just had to express in the metalcraft that I’m doing so that I can add joy to jewelry buyers’ lives all over the world.

I know that sounds whimsical and fantastical, but it happens all the time. This is why you have to have your eyes open for inspiration.

Believe it or not, if you’re just hanging out at somebody’s backyard and you’re checking out their decking, that may just be enough.

I remember one time I was hanging out at my friend’s backyard deck and I was looking at the decking patterns, and then all of a sudden, it dawned on me that leather can be lined up that way, along with metal parts.

The more I talked to my friend about the pattern in her deckings, the more I wanted to check out my shop so I can see what I can do in terms of replicating those deckings in many different ways.

What I would do is I would create many different variations of the decking pattern, and then I would post the test patterns on Facebook. Then people would send their feedback, and then I’d come up with other variations.

I would find the variation that people like the most, and then I would come up with prototypes. This is part of the reason why I make seven figures off my accessories business.

And believe me, I’m not some sort of genius. I’m not a rocket scientist either. It really all boils down to having an eye for inspiration.

If you are in any way, shape or form interested in the arts and crafts, you better have this eye as well because it just makes your life so much easier and much more beautiful.
